Within the framework of the “Festival d’Europa 2022”, the Europan Commission Representation in Italy, the Foundation Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, and the Europe Direct University of Siena organize the masterclass “Being European: what does it mean?“.

How and why was the European Union founded? How has the relationship between citizens and the EU evolved over the years? How can young citizens participate in European policies and consolidate their own dimension of European citizenship? In a nutshell, what does it mean to be European today?

Speakers: Francesco Frati – Rector University of Siena, Massimo Pronio – Communication Manager of the Europan Commission Representation in Italy, Massimiliano Tarantino – Director of Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, Massimiliano Montini – Scientific director of Europe Direct Siena, Nicolò Donati – Researcher of Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli.
With the participation of Attilio Geroni – Chief editor foreign desk of Il Sole 24 Ore, and music opening of M.M Shaahin.

The masterclass will give students an opportunity to understand how the present of Europe and of European citizens lives is linked to the the history of the European integration process, which we must be aware of. Because future is not written already. Instead, it is shaped also thanks to our questions and contribution, starting from values and needs expressed by the society.

During the masterclass, the moderator Gabriela Jacomella will interact with students through an online survey usable from smartphones.

The meeting will be streamed on the Facebook page and on the website of “Scuola di Cittadinanza Europea” to allow participation remotely.
