Multilingualism is one of the founding principles of the European Union. Article 3 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU) states that the EU “respects the richness of its cultural and linguistic diversity”.

On that basis, the seminar seeks to examine the complex and variegated community linguistic landscape, passing through the issues concerning linguistic and cultural diversity as a wealth to be preserved and an obstacle to be overcome.

The contributions in the seminar will also focus on aspects of linguistic economics related to the evaluation of language policy, language planning, the effects of different tools and strategies of language policy on the behavior of individuals and organizations.

Speakers:

  • Davide Astori, University of Parma
  • Irene Micali, University of Florence
  • Michele Gazzola, University of Ulster
